Knute, who suffered a TBI at age 11, transfers directly from his wheelchair into the Gait Harness System, facing the open side, with minimal assistance. When he first began getting on his feet (after not walking for over 22 years), it required a three person assist to help him complete a supine transfer from the mat table. Because staff encouraged Knute to participate in his transfer process, he has become stronger, and is enjoying the increased independence.

Knute is smoothly, safely, and quickly able to transfer out of the Gait Harness System back into his wheel chair after his routine walking activities.

Mary Ann is using the Gait Harness System after suffering from a stroke, and through progressive Alzheimer’s disease. This video shows how Mary Ann is kept safe and comfortable transferring out of the GHS into her wheelchair.

Application of the Hand Hold Set Accessory to the Gait Harness System.

Joe Millen MPT demonstrates how the Second Step Gait Harness provides increased client and caregiver/therapist safety through a greater degree of patient control during transfers, reduced forces on the lumbar spine of caregiver and patient alike, and standardized handholds for proper positioning. Varied harness sizes allow for quick and effective transfers of patients of different dimensions.
